If you’re not listening to music while you’re baking, then you’re not baking properly. It’s a scientific fact that singing and dancing around the kitchen like an idiot makes for a tastier end product* and it’s more fun that way, obviously. Sidenote: I was going to write ‘obvs’ there instead but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it—I mean, what if people thought I actually USED that non-word and wasn’t just taking the piss? *shiver*
Usually when I’m baking I fall back on either my ‘Soul’ Spotify playlist (which, you guessed it, features Soul music) or my 80s Power Ballads playlist (which is all power ballads, although they’re not all from the 80s—I should really rename that one). But for brownies I’ve got another, special playlist—it’s 37 minutes long (which, incidentally is pretty much exactly the amount of time it takes me to prepare the brownies and put them in the oven) and features 10 amazingly awesome songs guaranteed to make any tray of brownies taste just that little bit better than, say, if I’d been stuck listening to… the radio!
In no particular order this time, here they are, the ten best songs to make brownies to:
Another side note: despite what the lyrics to number three might suggest, these are not ‘special’ brownies that I’m making!
- Ain’t too Proud to Beg by The Temptations
- More Than a Feeling by Boston
- With a Little Help from My Friends by The Beatles
- Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson
- Honkey Tonk Women by The Rolling Stones
- Everyday People by Sly & The Family Stone
- Africa by Toto
- Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars
- She Drives Me Crazy by Fine Young Cannibals
- Downtown by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
So there you have it! If you need a few extra songs for the clean-up (which, given you’ve been dancing around and making a right royal mess, could take a while) I suggest Cold as Ice by Foreigner, Castle on the Hill by Ed Sheeran, Bust a Move by Busta Rhymes, and Rain by Dragon.
*Okay, I made this up – did you seriously believe it?
